A Millî Takımımız, 2022 FIFA Dünya Kupası Avrupa Elemeleri play-off turu yarı finalinde bir penaltıdan yararlanamadığımız maçta deplasmanda Portekiz'e 3-1 mağlup oldu ve Dünya Kupası finallerine katılma şansını kaybetti.

Porto şehrinde bulunan Dragão Stadyumu'nda oynanan maçta Portekiz, 15. dakikada Otavio ve 42. dakikada Diego Jota'nın golleri ile 2-0 öne geçti. 65. dakikada Burak Yılmaz'ın golüyle umutlanan Millîler, 85. dakikada Enes Ünal'a yapılan faul sonrasında VAR'ın uyarısıyla kazanılan penaltıyı Burak Yılmaz'ın kaçırması sonrasında beraberlik şansını kullanamadı. Ev sahibi ekip 90+4. dakikada Matheus Nunes'in golüyle maçı 3-1 galip tamamladı.

Bu sonuçla play-off turunda elemelere veda eden Ay-Yıldızlılar, Kuzey Makedonya'ya 1-0'lık sonuçla elenen İtalya ile 29 Mart Salı günü Konya'da özel maçta karşı karşıya gelecek. Konya Büyükşehir Stadyumu'ndaki karşılaşma 21.45'te başlayacak.
