Göz dövmesi nedir?

Göz tattosu olarak da bilinen 2000 yıllardan sonra tüm dünyada yaygınlaşmaya başlayan bir yöntemdir. Kaza, darbe, ameliyat veya başka nedenlerle görme kayıplarının ardından gözler normal formunu kaybedip bembeyaz bir görünüme bürünebiliyor. Göz dövmesi gözleri beyazlaşmış kişilerin estetik amaçlı gözlerinin boyanmasıdır.

Göz dövmesi kimlere uygulanır?

Bembeyaz gözlü herkese ayrıntılı göz muayenesinden sonra daha uygun başka tedavi alternatifi yoksa uygulanabilir. Tüm hastaların göz doktoru tarafından ayrıntılı bir muayenesi yapılmalıdır. Göz dövmesi tecrübesi olan bir göz (kornea) uzmanı tarafından karar verilmesi ve uygulanması gereklidir.

Göz dövme uygulamasına ne zaman nasıl başladınız?

Bölüm başkanımız Prof. Dr. Halit Oğuz hocamızın destekleri ile hastanemizde birçok yenilikler yapılmaktadır. Göz dövmesi bunlardan sadece biridir. Hocamızın destekleri, uygun ortamı sağlaması sayesinde iki yıl önce Prof Dr Süleyman Yalçın Hastanesin kornea biriminde göz dövme işlemini uygulamasına başladık.

Beyaz gözlü hastalar en çok neden şikâyet etmektedirler?

Estetik önemli bir konudur. Beyaz göz estetik açıdan ciddi problemler yaratmaktadır. Beyaz gözlü hastalarımız toplum içerisine sosyal ortamlara rahatlıkla çıkamamaktadır. Beyaz gözlü hastalarımızın çok uzak mesafelerden gözlerinin problemli olduğu farkedilmektedir. Bu durum toplu ortamlarda özellikle çocuklar tarafından istenmeyen tepkilere neden olmaktadır. Beyaz gözlü bir çocuğumuz okuluna rahat gidememekte okul arkadaşları tarafından dışlanmaktadır. Aile içerisinde ise gözü beyazlamış bir ebeveynin küçük çocuğu ve torunu yanına gelmemektedir. Bu hastalarımız iş bulma konusunda da ciddi sıkıntılar yaşamaktadır. Toplu ortamlarda çalışan bir kişi çeşitli nedenlerle gözü beyazladıktan sonra işini sürdürmekte ciddi sıkıntılar yaşamaktadır. Kısacası bembeyaz gözler sadece hastalarımızın kişişel problem değil toplumsal bir problemdir.

Göz dövmesi uygulaması nasıl yapılmaktadır ne kadar sürmektedir?

Bembeyaz gözlü hastalar kornea birimimize başvurduktan sonra ayrıntılı göz muayenesi yapılmaktadır. Gözün dövme işlemine uygun olup olmadığı ve alternatif tüm tedavi yöntemleri değerlendirilmektedir. Dövme işlemine karar verildikten sonra hastanın ayrıntılı fotoğrafları çekilmektedir. Hasta ile birlikte diğer göz rengine uygun boyaya karar verilmektedir. Beyaz gözlü hastanın diğer göz rengine uygun bir renk seçilmektedir. Ameliyathane ortamında hasta uyutulmadan 30- 45 dakika süren bir işlemdir. Gözün ortası siyah çevresi diğer göz rengine uygun olarak boyanmaktadır.

Göz dövmesi protez ameliyatina alternatif midir?

Gözleri beyazlamış hastalar için renkli kontakt lens, kornea nakli veya protez ameliyatı gibi birçok tedavi alternatifleri mevcuttur. Protez ameliyatında hastanın gözü alınarak yapay bir göz takılmaktadır. Göz dövmesinde ise hastanın kendi gözünü boyamaktayız. Hastanın kendi gözü boyandığı için birçok avantajları mevcuttur. Her protez gereken hastaya göz dövmesi uygun değildir ancak hastanemize protez ameliyatı olmak için gelen bir çok hastamızda göz dövmesi ile estetik olarak başarılı sonuç elde ettik. Bu hastalar protez ameliyatına gerek kalmadı. Diğer tedavi alternatifleri uygun olmayan hastalara protez ameliyatına karar vermeden göz dövmesini araştırmasını veya göztepe Prof Dr Süleman Yalçın hastanesi kornea birimimizde muayene olmasını öneriyoruz.

Göz dövmesi uygulamasının istenmeyen etkileri var mıdır?

Tüm cerrahi uygulamaların yan etkisi bulunmaktadır. Göz dövmesinin en sık istenmeyen etkisi dövme boyasının ilk aylarda solmasıdır. Çok fazla solma olan hastalara ikinci bir dövme uygulaması gerekebilmektedir. Bu renk solması tecrübeli ellerde uygun yöntem ve boya ile daha az olmaktadır. Her boya göze uygun değildir ve solma ihtamali az olan boya kullanılmalıdır. Diğer istenmeyen etkisi ilk aylarda göz kızarıklığı, sulanma ve batma şikayetleridir. Bu şikayetler ilk haftalarda fazla olmasına rağmen bir ay içinde büyük oranda geçmektedir.

Göz dövmesi ile neyi tedavi etmeyi amaçlamaktayız?

Bembeyaz gözlü hastalar sosyal kalabalık ortamlarda, toplu taşıma araçlarına binerken estetik açıdan sıkıntı yaşamaktadırlar. Hastalarımızın en çok şikayet ettikleri konu ise çocuklarının, torunlarının kendilerinden korkmaları ve yanlarına gelmemesidir. Sağlam göz kadar mükemmel bir göz rengi elde etmemiz mümkün olmasada hastalarımızın sosyal ortamlara rahatça girebilmelerini, toplu taşımada göz problemlerinin farkedilmemesini hedeflemekteyiz. Göz dövmesi uyguladığımız hastalar dikkatli bakıldığında gözlerinde problem olduğu farkedilmektedir ama hastalarımız rahatça toplu taşımaya binebilmekte, sosyal ortamlara girebilmektedir. En önemlisi ise çocuklarını, torunlarını rahatça kucaklarına alabilmektedir.

Her renkte göz dövmesi uygulanıyor mu?

Hastanemizde hastanın diğer göz rengine uygun olarak yeşil veya kahverenginin değişik tonlarında göz dövmesi uygulanmaktadır. Hastanın diğer göz rengini yüzde yüz tutturmak mümkün olmasada mümkün olduğu kadar benzer renkte dövme yapılmaya çalışılmaktadır. Tüm renklerde göz gövmesi uygulanmaktadır.

Hangi yöntemi uygulamaktasınız?

Göz dövmesi uygulamasının bir çok farklı tekniği vardır. Dünyada genelde siyah renkli dövme uygulanmaktadır. Her hastanın gözüne uyguladığımız yöntem farklıdır. Kullanıdığımız boya markası her hastaya ve tekniğe göre değişmektedir. Hastanemizde uyguladığımız dövme yönteminde tüm dünyada uygulanan tek siyah renk yerine kahverengi yeşil veya diğer renklerde boyamaktayız.

Sağlam gözlerde göz rengini değiştirmek için dövme yapıyormusunuz?

Böyle bir uygulama asla yoktur. Dünyada göz rengini değiştirmek isterken görmesini kaybeden kişiler vardır. Bu yaptığımız uygulama sadece problemli beyaz gözlerde estetik tedavi amaçlıdır. Gözlerimiz değerlidir. Gözlerimize göz doktorları tarafından önerilmeyen hiçbir işlemi uygulamamalıyız.

Son mesajınız nedir?

Göz dövmesi toplum tarafından pek bilinen bir uygulama değildir. Toplumda binlerce bembeyaz gözlü hasta bulunmaktadır. Bu hastaların bilinçlenmesi çok çok önemlidir. Sosyal medyada bu haberleri paylaşmamız toplumun bilinçlenmesini ve birçoğunun tedavi almasını sağlayacaktır. Belkide birçok hastamızda protez ameliyatına gerek kalmayacaktır. What is an eye tattoo?

It is a method that has become widespread all over the world after 2000 years, also known as eye tattoo. Eyes may lose their normal form and take on a white appearance after vision loss due to accident, impact, surgery or other reasons. Eye tattoo is the painting of the eyes of people with whitened eyes for aesthetic purposes.

Who is the eye tattoo applied to?

It can be applied to anyone with white eyes, after a detailed eye examination, if there is no other more suitable treatment alternative. All patients should undergo a detailed examination by an ophthalmologist. It is necessary to decide and apply by an eye (cornea) specialist with eye tattoo experience.

When did you start the eye tattoo application?

Our department head Prof. Dr. With the support of Halit Oğuz, many innovations are being made in our hospital. Eye tattoo is just one of them. Thanks to our teacher's support and providing the appropriate environment, we started the eye tattooing process in the cornea unit of Prof Dr Süleyman Yalçın Hospital two years ago.

Why do white-eyed patients complain the most?

Aesthetics is an important issue. White eye creates serious problems in terms of aesthetics. Our white-eyed patients cannot easily go out into social environments. It is noticed that our white-eyed patients have problems with their eyes from far distances. This situation causes undesirable reactions especially by children in public environments. A white-eyed child cannot go to school comfortably and is ostracized by his schoolmates. In the family, the small child and grandchild of a white-eyed parent do not come to him. These patients also have serious problems in finding a job. A person working in a collective environment has serious difficulties in continuing his work after his eyes turn white for various reasons. In short, white eyes are not only a personal problem of our patients, but a social problem.

How long does the eye tattoo application take?

After patients with white eyes apply to our cornea unit, a detailed eye examination is performed. Whether the eye is suitable for tattooing and all alternative treatment methods are evaluated. After the tattoo process is decided, detailed photographs of the patient are taken. The dye suitable for the other eye color is decided together with the patient. A color suitable for the other eye color of the white-eyed patient is selected. It is a procedure that takes 30- 45 minutes in the operating room environment without the patient being put to sleep. The middle of the eye is painted black around the other eye color.

Is eye tattoo an alternative to prosthetic surgery?

There are many treatment alternatives for patients whose eyes have turned white, such as colored contact lenses, corneal transplantation or prosthetic surgery. In prosthetic surgery, the patient's eye is removed and an artificial eye is inserted. In eye tattoo, we paint the patient's own eye. There are many advantages because the patient's own eye is painted. Eye tattooing is not suitable for every patient who needs a prosthesis, but we have achieved aesthetically successful results with eye tattoos in many of our patients who came to our hospital for prosthetic surgery. These patients did not need prosthetic surgery. We recommend that patients for whom other treatment alternatives are not suitable should investigate eye tattooing before deciding on prosthetic surgery or be examined in our cornea unit of Göztepe Prof Dr Süleman Yalçın Hospital.

Are there any undesirable effects of eye tattoo application?

All surgical procedures have side effects. The most common undesirable effect of an eye tattoo is the fading of the tattoo ink in the first months. Patients with too much fading may need a second tattoo application. This color fading is less in experienced hands with the appropriate method and paint. Not every paint is suitable for the eyes and paint with a low probability of fading should be used. Other undesirable effects are eye redness, watering and stinging complaints in the first months. Although these complaints are more in the first weeks, they largely pass within a month.

What do we aim to treat with an eye tattoo?

White-eyed patients experience aesthetic difficulties in crowded social environments and while getting on public transport. The most common complaint of our patients is that their children and grandchildren are afraid of them and do not come near them. Do we get an eye color that is as perfect as a healthy eye?

Although it is not possible, we aim to ensure that our patients can enter social environments easily and that eye problems are not noticed in public transportation. When we apply eye tattoos, it is noticed that there is a problem in the eyes of the patients, but our patients can easily get on public transport and enter social environments. Most importantly, they can comfortably take their children and grandchildren in their arms.

Are eye tattoos applied in every color?

In our hospital, eye tattoos are applied in different shades of green or brown in accordance with the patient's other eye color. Although it is not possible to match the patient's other eye color 100%, it is tried to make tattoos in a similar color as much as possible. Eye shadow is applied in all colors.

Which method are you using?

There are many different techniques of eye tattoo application. Generally, black tattoos are applied in the world. The method we apply to each patient's eye is different. The paint brand we use varies according to each patient and technique. In the tattoo method we apply in our hospital, we paint in brown green or other colors instead of the only black color applied all over the world.

Do you tattoo to change eye color on intact eyes?

Such an application never existed. There are people in the world who lost their sight while trying to change their eye color. This application is only for aesthetic treatment in problematic white eyes. Our eyes are precious. We should not apply any procedure to our eyes that is not recommended by ophthalmologists.

What is your last message?

Eye tattooing is not a well-known practice by the society. There are thousands of white-eyed patients in the community. Awareness of these patients is very important. Sharing these news on social media will raise awareness of the society and help many of them receive treatment. Perhaps many of our patients will not need prosthetic surgery.
